Firefall is a free-to-play shooter from Red 5 Studios that can be played in both third and first person. The story involves humans trying to protect the last safe zone on earth from aliens known as the Chosen. Players have access to a variety of Battleframes that each have their own characteristics and levels and all Battleframes can be accessed by a single character.
Battleframes - Battleframes are the class system in Firefall. There are five main categories of Battleframes: the Dreadnought, Assault, Engineer, Biotech, and Recon. Each category has its own characteristics and there are specialized Battleframes within each category that provide more distinct abilities. For example, the Biotech class balances healing and damage abilities. However, the sub-class Recluse focuses entirely on damage. Levels are also tied to individual Battleframes making progression dynamic.
Open World and Instanced Variety - Firefall gives players numerous options when it comes to gameplay. There are real-time open world events such as Chosen incursions which will occasionally spawn near outposts that must be defended from waves of enemies. There are also instanced missions like Crash Down and Blackwater Anomaly which require a group of players to progress through a dungeon with boss battles and varying objectives.
Crafting - Gathering resources, either dropped from enemies or through dedicated effort like thumping, will allow players to craft a variety of items. Crafting stations can be found in any main hub. Each tier of item also requires specific resources and these items are essential to upgrading Battleframes and weapons.
